Frequently asked questions
- What's included in the monthly fee at Aegis Living?
- The monthly rate covers your private apartment, chef-prepared all-day dining, weekly housekeeping and laundry, 200+ monthly activities, transportation, and access to the 24-hour care team and on-site nurse. Personal care services (bathing help, medication management, two-person transfers) are billed by care level so you only pay for what's used.
- How is Aegis Living's memory care different from a standard dementia unit?
- Memory care happens in Life's Neighborhood®, a secured, intimate setting staffed by dementia-trained caregivers 24/7 with a nursing team on site seven days a week. The program includes science-based cognitive activities, certified music therapy, and dining spaces designed for memory support, plus Hoyer lifts and two-person transfers so residents rarely have to move to a higher level of care.
- Can my parent stay at Aegis Living through hospice?
- Yes. If your loved one is already an Aegis resident, hospice care is delivered in their own apartment by our 24/7 team in coordination with a local hospice agency you choose. The goal is to avoid disruptive moves at end of life so the focus stays on comfort, dignity, and time with family.
- What is AUGi and is it intrusive?
- AUGi is a discreet wall-mounted device that uses on-device AI to detect motion patterns linked to falls, including someone getting out of bed at risk. It does not record video or audio of residents and instantly alerts the care team when help is needed, which the CDC identifies as critical given that one in four older adults falls each year (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2024).
- Do you accept Medicare or Medicaid?
- Medicare does not pay for room and board in assisted living or memory care, though it may cover specific medical services like physician visits and short-term rehabilitation. Medicaid acceptance varies by state and community. Your community director can walk you through Veterans Aid & Attendance, long-term care insurance, and other funding options during a tour.
- What if my parent's care needs change after move-in?
- Care plans are reviewed at 30 days and any time conditions shift. Because Aegis Living offers Light Assisted Living, Assisted Living, Transitional Care, and secured Memory Care in most communities, your parent can step up in support, including hands-on mobility help and two-person transfers, without changing addresses or losing their care team.
