Who is assisted living the right fit for?

Assisted living sits between independent living and a skilled nursing home — right when living alone is unsafe or isolating, but constant medical supervision is not needed. About 818,800 Americans live in assisted-living communities (CDC NCHS, 2022).

Consider assisted living when you notice missed medications, falls, withdrawal from hobbies, caregiver burnout, or home safety changes.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How is assisted living different from a nursing home?
Assisted living is residential and social, with caregivers and nurses supporting daily life in a private apartment. Nursing homes provide round-the-clock medical care for IV therapy, complex wound care, or constant clinical monitoring.
Can my parent stay if their health declines?
In most cases, yes. Care points scale up, Restore therapy comes to the apartment, and hospice can be coordinated in place. Memory symptoms may transition to Life's Neighborhood®.
Can couples with different care needs live together?
Yes. Each spouse receives their own assessment and care plan while sharing the apartment.
Are pets allowed at Aegis Living?
Yes, subject to community guidelines. Companion animals reduce loneliness — a U.S. Surgeon General public-health priority in 2023.
How quickly can someone move into assisted living?
Move-in can happen within 7–14 days when an apartment is available. Hospital discharges are often expedited; respite can bridge gaps.
How is assisted living paid for?
Most families combine retirement income, home-sale proceeds, long-term-care insurance, and VA Aid & Attendance where eligible. Medicare covers qualifying short-term rehab and hospice services on site.
